Lyon
Family
My
husband, Richard and I (Shelley) opened Lyon Family
Farms in September of 2006, but its history begins long
before that. We have two children, Luke Thomas
Lyon born November 26, 2006 and Elizabeth Rose Lyon
born November 15, 2008. We attend Bethlehem Baptist
Church where we help with the pre-school department.
Richard works full-time with his parents on their family
farm where I help with the bookkeeping and also serve
as a full-time mom.
Richard graduated from the University of Tennessee in May of 2000 with a degree in
Ag Economics. He joined his parents on their family farm, Quality Trees where they raise vegetables, nursery stock, Christmas Trees, and of course pumpkins. Richard’s parents are Stanley and Martha Lyon. His two siblings are Roger Lyon and Debbie Pickett. The family farm is just about 3 miles away on Childress Road.
I graduated from Auburn University in December of 2002 with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. After graduation, I moved to Texas to work for Trees Inc. a division of TruGreen and then moved home to Hazel Green Alabama and worked at Jean’s Lawn and Garden Center. I met Richard in September of 2003 and we were married in July of 2004. My parents are Phillip and Rosa Page and my brother and sister-in-law are Bryan and Suzanne Page. My entire family works at Lyon Family Farms so be sure to look for them here.
We purchased the present location of Lyon Family Farms in February 2006 from the Leyland Hill Family. The Hill’s were sweet potato farmers and had used the pumpkin barn as their packing and storage facilities. Richard had the idea of a Pick-Your-Own pumpkin patch for years, and when the present location became available, he knew it was perfect. We have tried to create an atmosphere where families can come have a good time together, in a relaxed and country setting.
We have setup the farm to promote learning as well as having fun. Every year students from all over come and tour Lyon Family Farms. We provide you with a hayride, a trip through the petting zoo, an educational talk by Richard’s second grade teacher, Mrs. Wolfe, and of course, time on the playground. There’s nothing better than seeing a child pick his / her own pumpkin, pet a cow or learn a little about farming for the first time.
The
great outdoors and farming have always been a way of
life for Richard and me, and we would love to share
our little piece of heaven with you. So bring
your family out and spend a little time with ours.
We can’t wait to see you!
